 Resumé Corien Wortmann-Kool

Corien is a member of the European Parliament for the EPP/CDA (Christian-Democratic Party) since 2004. She lives in Zeist, the Netherlands, is married and has a 22-year-old daughter and a 20-year-old son.

Corien was born on June 27, 1959. In 1987 she obtained a Masters' degree in political science at the Free University of Amsterdam.

After finishing her studies, Corien was a member of the board of an SME. From 1996-2004, she worked at the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Manegement, where she served as Deputy Director for Transport and Infrastructure.

Currently in the Parliament, Corien is Vice-President of the EPP-Group for social-economic and environmental policy. She is member of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, substitute-member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism and of the Committee on Women's rights and Gender equality.

Corien is Vice-President of the European People´s Party (EPP) and she is member of the presidency of the EPP's SME-Union and president of the SME-women.
In the Netherlands Corien is member of the jury of the Prix Veuve Clicquot (Business Women of the Year Prize).

Since the age of 19, Corien has been active in politics. She was a member of the administrative committee of the CDA youth organization (CDJA) from 1981-1984 and member of the CDA administrative committee from 1987-1994. From 1989-1994 Corien was a member of the EPP Political Bureau. She was elected to the Zeist Municipal Council from 1994-1999 and served as group chairwoman. Also during the 1990s, Corien held the position of vice-chairman of the supervisory council of the 'Zon en Schild' Psychiatric Centre in Amersfoort.
